30 Day Rollercoaster

BET Experience Diet Coke GIF Booth
The past month have been full of extreme highs and lows. So much so that I was uncertain if I should even attend the weekends events, let alone post them. The reality is that so many others share my same experiences and don’t get to turn life off because of them.  Why so dramatic you say? I like beginning with lows to have something to look forward to. The truth is, my family suffered the devastating loss of my nephew the day after my blog launched, coincidentally, that's also the day after my birthday.  This is especially difficult, as my brother(his father) passed away at a very young age as well. While I can’t bring myself to discuss the details, I am getting to a point of processing it. I was able to function enough and be present for certain events, and I'm not at the point that  can share. I am by no means over losing him.  I still cry uncontrollably at the drop of a dime, and if I’m being completely honest...you’re girl is MOODY. However, I made a commitment to him and my brother to live through this process.  By “live” I mean not shutting down and shutting the world out until I feel better, but experience life as I mourn.  This may not work for everyone, but it brings me peace of mind during a time that peace is hard to come by. Now for the bittersweet highs. I had the pleasure of hanging out at the BET Experience Weekend with my oldest mini and of course, I had to make a statement while doing so. I also got to give him his very first driving lesson.  I can see my last chauffeur job in the near future. Fingers crossed please!  Finally, we celebrated my babies 15th birthday!!! I have to say, that was a tear jerker for me! What have you all been up to?  In the comments let me know how you kicked off your summer.

Let's talk about the BET Experience.  I am so happy that I went, it was surreal! That first day, the pride throughout the event was unapologetic and much more abundant than I expected.  In fact, I walked out feeling encouraged.  I’ll be transparent and say that my cup was full of LA skepticism. The fact is that we praise awards shows that don't truly praise our talents(I'm a true hip-hop fan if you can't tell). The BET Experience was full of eclectic booths and most importantly, people.  I can tell that a lot of time and effort went into making the event safe and flow.  I won't lie though, walking on my way to the event was like walking through little "Ratchet Land", and then suddenly I was surrounded b Black Excellence. Like I said, surreal. Like my statement T-shirt?  You can get one exactly like it from Black Vogue.
